BEGIN YOUR AYURVEDIC JOURNEY

Abhyanga (Sanskrit-oil massage) is a deep and nourishing therapeutical treatment considered a fundamental part of restoring, balancing and maintaining health and well-being. Warm sesame (or coconut) oil mixed with special Ayurvedic herbs is applied to the body in a rhythmic flow. It is a slow mindful process that allows the oil to deeply penetrate the skin, tissues, joints, organs, blood, and bones.

Abhyanga works to restore the balance of Doshas in the body. Vata (air and ether), Pitta (fire and water) and Kapha (water and Earth) are the energies that govern the physical, emotional and mental health within the body. This deeply intense, yet relaxing, treatment improves circulation, re-sets digestion, detoxifies the body by improving lymphatic drainage, promotes sleep quality, regain mental clarity, strengthen immunity, restore balance to the central nervous system, identify and loosen/remove blockages, relieve joint and muscle pain and strengthen the immune system.

***Not recommended for women during menstruation, those experiencing fever, constipation or severe digestive issues or those with an excessive Kapha imbalance.

A little bit about me

‘Having a daily routine is a crucial part of health. When the body adjusts to a daily routine, it learns to count on it, the nervous system can relax. Ayurveda prescribes a routine where we do the same things at the same times daily if possible. In Ayurveda, a healthy, low stress lifestyle means having a daily routine that includes such elements as getting appropriate regular exercise and sufficient sleep.’

-Dr. Claudia Welch

I began my wellness journey back in 2004 when I was struck down with an unknown illness. I was living in London, the co-owner of a successful PR agency and living my dream. I worked hard and, not to be too cliche, partied even harder. Usually a fit and healthy person (ate exclusively organic, took balanced supplements, went to yoga, sat in steam rooms, practiced kickboxing) until one day I began to feel out of sorts and soon spiraled out of control and became progressively worse. I went to my local GP and with only a 10 minute appointment allocated, my doctor hastily prescribed antibiotics which I dutifully took. Not getting any better I booked a private doctor on Harley Street and she also prescribed antibiotics and assured me I would feel better within a few days. My health became even worse. I was losing weight, my skin was dull, hair laucklustre and falling out, and it took all my willpower to get to work every day. I could barely eat or sit/stand without pain. I realized a westernized medical approach was making my situation more dire so I pivoted to a naturopath. As soon as I walked in, and before I could even sit down, she asked me to stick out my tongue. Immediately she diagnosed me with candida of the stomach and put me on a restrictive diet, a daily routine and prescribed a series of herbs. Within days my health turned around and I began to feel like myself again.

These small yet significantly impactful changes triggered my newfound and passionate enthusiasm to pursue different pathways to Eastern and holistic healing arts. Over twenty years later I am still on a education journey that sees no end in sight.
